The Study Abroad Student Advisor & Enrollment Coordinator plays a central role in supporting Expanish study abroad students throughout the full pre-arrival student journey, from initial inquiry through enrollment and preparation for arrival. This position is a core student support function within Expanish Study Abroad and is essential to fostering student learning, engagement, retention, and readiness.

The Advisor & Enrollment Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for undergraduate students studying abroad with Expanish in Spain and Latin America, providing individualized guidance on program selection, academics, application requirements, housing, costs, and pre-arrival preparation. The role also requires close coordination with university partners and internal Expanish teams to ensure students are appropriately advised and institution-specific requirements are met.

This position is ideal for someone who is student-centered, detail-oriented, and collaborative, with a strong interest in international education and advising.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a primary advisor for prospective and admitted study abroad students, providing timely, accurate, and student-centered guidance throughout the recruitment and decision-making process.

  • Guide students through the study abroad application process, including application review, documentation support, and clear communication of admissions decisions and next steps.

  • Prepare accepted students for their abroad experience through structured pre-arrival advising and orientation support, covering academics, housing, cultural adjustment, health and safety, and travel preparation.

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of partner university policies, academic requirements, and advising frameworks to ensure institutional alignment.

  • Communicate effectively with university study abroad offices, faculty, and internal teams to support student success and program integrity.

  • Coordinate with on-site academic, housing, and student services teams to support smooth pre-arrival planning and transitions.

  • Maintain accurate records, timely follow-up, and clear communication across the student lifecycle using established systems and workflows.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of advising practices, student communications, and operational processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Proficiency in English

  • 2 years of experience in study abroad, international education, admissions, student advising, or a related student-facing role.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly to students.

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple students, timelines, and requirements simultaneously.

  • Strong student-centered approach and commitment to supporting student learning and success.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.

Preferred

  • Native English speaker with experience living and working in the United States and navigating the U.S. higher education system.

  • Experience advising U.S. undergraduate students.

  • Familiarity with U.S. higher education structures, academic credit, and study abroad processes.

  • Knowledge of study abroad program models (faculty-led, semester, summer, internships).

  • Spanish proficiency.

  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad.
